Campervan And Bookkeeping Business Blog/Update
It bugs me I still haven’t got my head around video blogs or vlogs, still haven’t got my head around nattering to my phone without proper editing software and I have the plague so if I picked it up now I’d look ridiculous.
Thing to do: nail vlogging!
Vlogging out performs blogging by miles and is a much more effective marketing tool (integrated as it is into Facebook , YouTube etc.) They’re designed to keep you awake at night with endless vids. Although this blog gets hits, it’s about 5 years out of date as a platform, and primarily acts as personal therapy and a sort of working CV. And with that:
In this blog I’ll go over the campervan business and where it is at, my academic situation (Liverpool Hope University) and my current bookkeeping business based in Liverpool.
So it turns out leaving your job at LJMU, setting up as a self employed bookkeeper to keep the money coming in and setting up a campervan rental company are lot to take on at the same time. I’m currently suffering from a heavy cold and it’s because I haven’t managed to compartmentalise the three, i.e. basically stressed due to disorganisation – not managing my time sufficiently (oh did I mention buying a classic Audi Coupe to do up as well).
Note to self: be more time organised and focused.
The campervan was broken into and all my tools where stolen which has dented my ability in the mega tight schedule we gave ourselves to sufficiently sort it. Also it needed welding where it currently resides (at the welders) pre paint finishing. The demand to rent her out has been through the roof which ironically has been stressful meeting that demand. Huge demand! Brilliant! why wouldn’t it be? We only advertised it to get a general idea of the market but it has been outstanding and with that comes the pressure. Something learnt there to be more resilient to that demand and also prepared. Sometimes luck does go your way.
I left Liverpool John Moores University as i’m studying Business Management at Liverpool Hope Uni in September. In the gap I sort to work freelance, on upwork etc. Fortunately I found a property company based right next to the university and now I’m processing invoices, doing management accounts, pushing my knowledge of accounting, which hopefully I can channel here and advise as I get better. I’m also using the Xero accounts cloud software, a system-knowledge sound for leveraging. This job I intend to maintain while at University, as an opportunity to work at such a level with a property business, understudying a chartered accountant is an opportunity I am lucky to have.
So all in all it’s been a busy few weeks and subsequently the site hasn’t been updated much. Hopefully as my learning curve steepens I can update more frequently. I gathered it’d speed up my learning if I teach what I learn, as I learn it, so expect a few more accounting updates. I’m currently watching a conference/talk by the founder of Air B&B – I’ll do a more thorough write up about him soon. Did you know Air B&B stands for Air-bed & breakfast as it started out as a short stay website for people renting out their spare airbed to accommodate people attending conferences, who couldn’t afford a hotel. Air B&B was created because the founders couldn’t afford their rent and needed a plan to create some quick cash!
and on that note, cheerio!
